Hey fellas, longtime poster from over on Nathan's Concealed Carry forum, first time poster here. I have been kicking around the idea of switching over to the PPS for some time now. My daily carry right now is a Springfield XDSC 40 that I have tricked out a bit with stippling and big dots, with several nice holsters...however the sexiness of the PPS still has me wondering.

Has anyone made the switch from glock or XD to the PPS and if so, how was the transition? I prefer to carry mine in an OWB Fist K2 high ride or Crossbreed Supertuck. I just love the slim factor of the PPS.

I look forward to your feedback on the Walther.

First of all, welcome to the forum.
My EDC was also a XD40sc. I actually bought a PPS9mm for a backup to wear on my ankle. I used to carry a Sig P232 as a back-up, but as you know coming over from Nathan's site, .380 calibers are only good for target practice (and nowadays, only if you can find ammo for it). After lurking at this forum for a bit, I decided to try the PPS9 for a back-up.....it turned out to be a great little carry.....flawless thus far. As summer came, the XD40sc became a bit harder to conceal with thinner clothing, so I thought I would try the PPS9 in the waistband to see how it felt. It soon became my go to carry weapon.....so light and thin, it almost disappears. I still like the XD, and will probably switch back in winter months, but the PPS fills the niche'. I ended up purchasing another PPS9 and now have one for my primary and back-up......keeps things pretty simple in regards to carrying extra mags. The thinness of it took a bit of getting used to, but once you get over that, you won't look back. Don't divorce your XD, but it wouldn't hurt to have a thinner mistress for added variety ;)
Good luck to you in your decision making, and again, welcome to the forum.

Cheers,
JT

By all means get one !!

When you try the trigger, don't worry. The trick I found is to get some SLP2000 lube into the trigger from both the top & bottom. Blow out the over fill with some air & fire 300 to 400 rounds thru it. The bigest thing that helped my trigger was the SLP 2000. ALso cleaned it after 300+ rounds & cleaned out & relubed the striker & striker channel with same lube. Magic stuff.

The bigger the hole, the harder they squirt

GreenDrake:

Welcome aboard!

I've got a PPS40 - about four months now, I think....

The 9mm MAY be more comfortable to shoot, but YMMV.

Meantime, that XD leather may also fit the PPS. I've got an XD9SC, and was surprised to find that one (rather expensive) holster here was a perfect fit when the Chicago screw is tightened a bit, and another one would be fine if I formed the top strap a bit. The PPS is definitely slimmer, but....

Here's a really crappy picture:

The one on the left is the XD9SC. Middle is the PPS40. The one on the right is a Para CCO (3.5" all steel LDA 1911). The latter wins the weight competition (much heavier), but all three conceal well. The white box to the rear is the one my P3AT came in....

Regards,

Stu.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have been through many handguns looking for the best sub-compact sized handgun for CCW. This search has taken several years. Involved in the search was my XD sub stainless in .40. I found that the XD had the snappiest recoil of any .40 I've ever tried. It was very hard on the hand. It hurt more than shooting my .44 magnum snubnose! The rangemaster tried it out and didn't like it either, along with my shooting partners. The XD was also too thick for me to IWB comfortably. Lastly, I had a tendancy to hit the slide lock while firing so it locked the slide back every once in a while during firing. Other handguns I tried owned in 9mm or 40:

Taurus PT145-fell apart on first range trip. Shot 10" low at about 15'. Had numerous FTE prior to parts falling off. Junk!

CZ Rami-Nice gun that would not get through a mag before FTF. CZ worked on the gun but it continued it's problems. CZ offered to work on the gun at my shipping expense from then on. I dumped it.

Glock 27-Flawless performer but too thick.

Glock 36-Flawless performer but too thick.

Kahr P45-30 failures per 100 rounds. The factory told me to break in for 500 rounds. Mags dropping while firing, FTE, FTF. I gave up on it after trying to make it work. The plastic they used felt the cheapest of anything I'd seen. It had plastic shavings coming off, etc. I'm not high on Kahr products.

Hk P7-Flawless performer and just about the right size. Absolutely the best sub compact gun I've shot for all around accuracy and reliability. The problem is cost and the finish on these isn't the best. I bought 3 and still believe them to be the best performers out there. During my P7 tests I was suggested a PPS and wanted one.

PPS .40-Love everthing about it. I don't like "break in period" excuses, but stuck it out. It is now a flawless performer after a few glitches in the first 150 rounds. Recoil is much lighter than the XD40. I can put several hundred rounds through this handgun where I couldn't with the XD due to the pain and blisters it formed on my hand. Accuracy for me is very good with the Walther. I want to keep the P7's in good shape so this is taking over partial CCW duties in a Cross Breed Supertuck.

Those are just a few of the guns I've owned and tried. I've tried a bunch of others that just seemed to have issues due to the compact size. I did like some of the sub sized Kimbers, but they are expensive and I don't like cocked and locked carry. For the money I think the Walther is an outstanding choice.

Ok all, I meant to do a little review on 9mm's and .40's but listed a couple of .45's in there as well. I saw the typo after I responded and don't know how to edit that.

My brother has an XD .40 sc. It's a little beast compared to my PPS'S!

PPS- Concealed carry perfection. Walther made the gun that Glock should have / didn't make.
