I just got back from a wedding in North Dakota. First night, -27 degrees with a -40 wind chill temperature. Day time temp, -20. Man, I forgot what it was like to try and function in those temperatures. It's strictly survival. They had just received 24 inches of new snow the week before so the snow banks were so high that I felt like I was driving through a tunnel. I got back to Utah this morning and 24 degrees felt great.

Anything below 20 is BRUTAL in my opinion. Stay warm!

I grew up in those temperatures but I do not miss it. Northern Utah has milded and short winters in comparison.

I feel for you Northern Brethren. Forecast for Thursday is + 20 degrees for us in Houston area. Of course, this is darn cold for us Southern types.

I had a discussion with a friend some years ago about this sort of thing. We decided that the minimum temperature you can stand without heavy protective gear is roughly the same as your age. However, as you get older the curve starts back up. Minus 27 and I'm in a hotel room, sitting on the radiator....

(Here in NE Ohio, minus 10 is considered improperly cold. A buddy of mine bought a new Mercedes Diesel a few years ago and made a sales call in Wisconsin. He shut the car off, and it wouldn't start. Seems the folks in that area never shut 'em off in the winter....)

Stu.
